After years of searching for a more adequate museum space, the Museum of Contemporary Art has moved into a new high-tech building where AVC Zagreb provided and installed state of the art audio, video and stage elements.
THE "GORGONA" MULTI-PURPOSE HALL
AVC brought audio, video and grip equipment of the highest quality in the state of the art multipurpose hall that is now able to accomodate nearly every type of event, performance or educational/art installation. The sound system is composed of a SOUNDCRAFT Vi4 digital mixing console with 48 mic/line channels, 16 analog outputs, additional 32 outputs distributed over COBRANET, and 32 AES/EBU digital I/O cards. There are 7 BSS BLU digital signal processors connected in a ring type topology for simultaneous control of 256 audio channels through an Ethernet interface and optics. The auditorium has three line arrays with a total of 12 JBL VRX932LAP loudspeaker systems and 4 VRX918SP subwoofers. The cinema sound system is composed of a DOLBY CP650EX cinema processor, JBL 8340A cinema surround loudspeaker system and CROWN XTi amplifiers, and is in compliance with the Dolby 7.1 standard. In addition, 8 WMS-450 wireless microphone systems, a number of wired microphones and 4 in-ear monitoring systems by AKG have been provided, along with a number of MD, CF and DVD/CD players.
A DIS conference and simultaneous interpretation system for simultaneous translation of up to 32 languages was installed in the hall. The system is composed of a DIS 6000 central unit, IR wireless transmitters, 125 IR digital receivers, interpreter sets and an AVC translation booth.
For theatre events, the hall is equipped with an intercom and a cue light system, both by ASL.
The main element of the video system is a DIGITAL PROJECTION projector, the TITAN 1080p-700, which, with an EDIROL V440HD multi-format video mixer and the EXTRON CrossPoint and MAV-Plus matrix switchers, gives a brilliant performance with 10,000 ANSI lumens of brightness onto a motorised screen located on the stage.
For standard cinema projections, a KINOTON FP48E 35/16mm projector was provided as well.
The stage lighting is made of 144 regulated power supply circuits with 48 direct connectors and 8 DMX controllable channels with a total power of more than 500kW, distributed through 6 STRAND LIGHTING WallRack 24 digital dimmers. The DTS, Robert Juliat and ADB spotlights distributed on 5 motorised lighting bridges and on the side structures create impeccable stage lighting. There are 16 MARTIN 700 moving heads for intelligent lighting. The lighting is operated via STRAND LIGHTING PALETTE Live 1500 console, while the entire system is controllable through a wired and a wireless DMX lighting control system.
The hall's stage mechanics are composed of a number of scenery and stage lighting hoists, four stage personal lifts and a revolving stage.
In order to simplify control, monitoring and parameter setting of a complex system such as this one as much as possible, all of its composing elements are connected to an AMX control interface. A wide variety of audio, video, lighting and stage mechanics elements is controllable through a wireless touchscreen, keypads on stage and in the auditorium, and 2 computers with 24″ high resolution TFT monitors.
High quality equipment was delivered and installed by AVC to meet even the most complex production requirements of the AV studio and non-linear editing. The studio is primarily designed for recording and postproduction of audio and video material. It is composed of an AV control room, a video/photo studio, an audio studio and a non-linear editing area.
The AV control room has a SONY MFS2100M multiformat video mixer for processing SDI and HDSDI video signals. Full content overview is enabled through a 46″ multiview plasma screen using an EVERTZ signal processing card and its converters. SONY VTRs, DVW2000P Digital Betacam, PDW-F75 XDCAM recorder/player, PRW-U1 portable XDCAM, J-30 SDI multiformat player and an HVR-1500 HDV recorder are all part of the studio's playing and recording equipment. As this set of professional video equipment would be incomplete without at least two professional video cameras for recording in the studio, SONY PDW-F335L XDCAM HD camcorders were provided as well.
Full control over the BALCAR cool lighting suspended from a metal ceiling structure is enabled through a STRAND LIGHTING WallRack 24-channel dimmer and an LSC lighting control console.
The audio component of the AV studio control room is dominated by a TASCAM DM4800 digital production console with an interface for the 5.1 multichannel sound production, connected to the JBL LSR 6328P studio monitors. The role of a multichannel recorder and an audio DSP (Digital Signal Processor) was allotted to the extraordinary SOUNDSCAPE 32 which, using the legendary effect processors LEXICON PCM-81 i PCM-91, along with a set of excellent AKG studio microphones, makes even the most demanding acoustic production possible. Moreover, the studio has BSS BLU DSPs interconnected by fiber optics for the reception of 24 audio channels from the Gorgona multipurpose hall.
The finalisation of audio and video material is made by two non-linear editing systems: the CANOPUS Edius NX and the legendary Final Cut Studio.
When you first catch sight of the Museum of contemporary art in Zagreb, especially if coming from the west, you won't be able to miss a giant LED display, probably the biggest in the region, which often features art installations or video presentations. Its four segments, three west and one south oriented, with a total surface area of around 400 m2 and a brightness of 4000 nit (cd/m2), are guaranteed to make an impact because of the astonishing quality of high resolution video material display that is irrespective of the time of day - the images are seen just as perfectly at night as in the brightest sunlight.
